History:
The farm was first owned by the famous Wentworth family.  Mark Hunking Wentworth, Esq. of Portsmouth in the Province of New Hampshire in New England purchased the land in 1765.  The property was conveyed to Wentworth’s son-in-law, John Fisher, who built a saw and grist mill on Seward’s Brook in 1769.  The  property passed to John Fisher, Jr. in 1799, and to John Drew in 1802, who built his house in 1804.  It was Mark Hunking Wentworth’s son, John Wentworth, who became the last English governor of New Hampshire before the Revolutionary War and many famous New Hampshire sites are named after him.  One would imagine that Governor Wentworth spent some time on this property and in the home.

In 1847 rail lines were established and began bringing passengers to Alton.  The bed and breakfast as we even know it today was born as the farmhouses took in those visiting the area from the cities for the clean country air.  It was in 1923 that Mr. Arthur B Gray purchased the farm and gave it the name of Lake Knoll Farm. Original post cards have been found that were written from Lake Knoll Farm dating 1935 stating the wonderful time they were having staying here.

The history of the first settlers from the King's Grant to the era of the railroad industry is a part of this historic farm.  Come and learn a little more.  It is a day that you will enjoy.

…and the rest is history.  Become a part of it!
